Peace Corps Response Volunteer

HAF will receive a Peace Corps Response Volunteer this fall to work with us for six months at the Center for Sustainable Development and Community Consensus-Building - a partnership between HAF and Hassan II University-Mohammedia.

The Volunteer will help develop curriculum and training workshops in participatory development. At least three multi-day training workshops are planned for the 2009-2010 academic year, including ones for graduate students, presidents of rural communes, and technicians working in Morocco’s national parks.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

• Assist staff in the development of a strategic plan for the Center’s training programs;
• Assist the project and training manager in developing curriculum and materials for training workshops (including printed manuals, PowerPoint presentations, and Web materials);
• Assist in identifying local communities for field-based trainings, and help coordinate logistics;
• Assist the project and training manager in the facilitation of at least three training workshops (classroom and experiential field-based learning);
• Participate in the preparation and review of all reports to project donors and other partners;
• Research techniques in participatory development and draw upon own experiences to transfer skills to the training and project manager, and adapt methods to Moroccan culture;
• Meet with the Center’s University partners regularly (the Dean, Vice Dean, and other faculty) and other partners as required for coordinating activities;
• Develop monitoring and evaluation indicators for the training programs, and train staff in their use; and
• Help identify new and viable groups to participate in the Center’s training programs.

Qualifications:

• Successful completion of Peace Corps service with a focus on participatory community development
• Proficient in written and spoken French and/or Arabic
• Master’s Degree or higher in international development, community development, education or other relevant discipline
• Strong training and capacity building experience, including experience writing, designing, and delivering training workshops
• Program monitoring and evaluation experience
• Experience in participatory development, active learning, and facilitation methods
• Ability to work independently and as a team member   
• Willingness to travel to remote locations
• Morocco RPCV or previous work experience in Morocco/North Africa (highly desired)
• Experience in participatory development outside of Peace Corps service (highly desired)
