Participatory Evaluation
Purpose: To incorporate the applied experience into a group analysis in order to enhance programming and/or project design and identification.
Experiential Learning Model (circular)
Experience >>> Evaluate, Reflect and Analyze >>> Generalize (build theories) >>> Apply (try new behaviors)
Experience: Something personally undergone or lived through.
Evaluate: Recalling what happened, who did what, in what order, with what effect; identifying patterns and dynamics, and alternative behaviors that might produce different effects.
Generalize: What new principles or concepts emerge for you? What new ideas or understanding do you have?
Apply: How can you use what you learned in the future? What skills do you need to use the new knowledge?
Evaluation Questions: Reactions to the Participatory Experience:
1. What worked well? What was difficult? What would you like to see done differently next time?
2. What was effective in building positive relationships in the class/community? What could be done to be more effective at building better relationships?
3. To what extent did the participatory development application provide you the knowledge and skills you need to: a) use the techniques in the future, and b) facilitate the analysis of information?
4. What more could have been done to increase your confidence in applying or encouraging participatory development?
5. If you were to continue working on your community project, what are some of the next steps you would take to continue the process you have started?
