Center for Community Consensus-Building and Sustainable Development

The Center is a partnership between HAF and Hassan II University-Mohammedia's  Faculty of Law, Economics, and Social Sciences (located in Mohammedia, Morocco).

The mission of the Center is to:

1) Promote local community participation in the planning and implementation of socio-economic and environmental projects; and

2) Build knowledge of sustainable development practices through applied activities (including community workshops and training sessions) and through scholarly research both within Morocco and internationally.

The Center is dedicated to the following activities:

  • Train students, faculty, staff, and NGO and government leaders, school teachers, and citizens in facilitating local community planning meetings that create carefully designed development projects based on community priorities.
  • Create partnerships with government and non-government agencies to help carry out community goals.
  • Provide ongoing workshops to transfer skills in effective development management, project implementation and technical maintenance, and fundraising.
  • Support research, writing, and publishing of students, faculty, and practitioners in order to build and share knowledge on sustainable development.
  • Organize symposia, events, and public education campaigns that inspire support for the Center's mission and activities.
  • Provide internships, fellowships, and volunteer opportunities at the Center in order for students to gain additional practical experience and skills development beyond training workshops.
