The purpose of the High Atlas Foundation in Morocco is sustainable development in disadvantaged communities, which are predominantly rural. HAF’s approach is to organize community-meetings (currently in 6 provinces), where local people together determine priority projects to achieve their development goals..
HAF is dedicated to projects in fruit tree agriculture, clean drinking water, women and youth empowerment and training in participatory planning and project management because they are most common development priorities. HAF also brings together communities and Moroccan and international partners to ensure project success. The communities manage the projects and are the beneficiaries, and contribute their skills and labor in-kind in all project phases.
For HAF, sustainable development rests on community-driven initiatives that have productive public and private partnerships. The participatory approach empowers people to create the development they most need and want.
